I've been growing tropical plants for many years. I bought my 1st property in Hawaii in 1998 and started clearing and planting in 1999. The east side (windward side) of the Big Island is a humid tropical rain forest environment that is great for growing almost anything. I have property at about 900 ft. and 300 ft. elevations and most lowland tropical plants will grow for me. I'm constantly adding new species to my collection.
Over the years I have found that it's a bit too warm for some cloud forest and higher elevation plants which prefer cooler temperatures. Also, we are finding that plants from areas with low rainfall do not grow well in our rain forest environment.
