Dacryodes edulis- Safou (4x4x10 Tree pot)

Family: Burseraceae. Common Name: Safou. Fruits with a rich oily pulp. Typically cooked and used in a number of dishes in Africa. Native to tropical rain forest of western Africa; Nigeria, Cameroon, DRC. Dioecious with occasional plants that have complete flowers. Although the fruit are sometimes called African pear or plum, they are not related to plums and pears that are grown in temperate climates and have a completely different flavor. Slightly acidic soil with good drainage. Use a complete fertilizer with micronutrients. Outdoors in Zone 11; possibly 10B. I don't expect this species to tolerate temperatures below freezing or prolonged periods of cold.
