Areca guppyana (5.5 inch square pot)

Common Name: unknown.  Small understory palm reaching about 10 to 15 ft. tall.  Deep green leaves have a few wide segments. Green crownshaft. Stilt roots emerge from the trunk to support the slender trunk. Fruits are about 1.5 inches in diameter and are bright red when ripe.  Reported to be used as a betel nut subsitute. Good container plant.  I've maintained a plant in a 7 gallon pot for nearly 15 years. Very tropical requirements; does not tolerate cool weather.  Requires some shade and high humidity.   Use palm fertilzier several times per year.  Zone 11.
