Aframomum melegueta (5.5 inch square pot)

Common Names: Grains of Paradise, Melegueta. Seeds are an important spice and exported from tropical west African countries.  Peppery flavor. Also, fruit, leaves and rhizome are used medicinally.   Fairly easy to grow in the tropics.  Plants put out runners and may be better in a large container in Hawaii or other tropical areas where escape may be an issue.  Partial shade to full sun in humid climates.  Prefers a slightly acidic soil. Fertlize several times per year with a general purpose fertilizer with miconutrients.  Outdoors in Zones 10B or higher. We don't expect this species to tolerate much cold.
