Aframomum angustifolium (5.5 inch square pot)

African ginger producing edible fruits and seeds. The pods are large at about 4 to 5 inches long and ripen to red. Pink flowers are on an inflorescence just above the soil.   Fairly fast growing and can start to bloom within a year. My first plant that I put in the ground in the spring of 2018, bloomed in August.  Native to tropical rain forest of West Africa.  This species produces runners and may need a barrier or grow it in a large pot.  Slightly acidic soil with good drainage. Seems to thrive in medium shade to full sun. If growing in an area with low humidity, it may require more shade.  Outdoors in Zone 10B or higher.  We don't expect this species to tolerate much cold.
