Bixa orellana (Dwarf annatto) 5.5 inch pot
Common Names: Annatto, Achiote. Seeds are used to produce food coloring and are used as a spice in some Caribbean dishes. The plant blooms and produces pods several times per year. Full sun. Moist well drained soil high in organic matter. Native to tropical South America. Be sure to keep well watered and warm. We don't expect this plant to have much cold tolerance. Due to the smaller size it is a good container plant for greenhouse or sun room. Outdoors in Zones 10B and 11. Next batch will be ready in late August or September.
