Areca vestiaria (5.5 inch square pot)
Bright orange to red crownshaft. Sometimes called sunrise or sunset palm. Fruits ripen to bright red. Colorful addition to the tropical garden or greenhouse. Small to medium palm native to lowland rain forest of Indonesia. Requires shady humid conditions. Looks best in a position protected from wind. Begins to show color at a young age. Well drained slightly acidic soil high in organic matter. Use a palm fertilizer several times per year. Slow release is best. Outdoors in Zones 10B to 11 or in a greenhouse. This palm will not tolerate cool or cold conditions.
